A Preview of CapLit’s 2026 Season
Announcing our opening event, our 2026 event dates, a creative partnership with Cap Stage, our new casting director, and a call for submissions!
It’s been a rough January for most of us, but CapLit is committed to lifting up the arts in a time of trouble. Here’s what you’ll find in this newsletter:
Season Opener: March 21 with Pulitzer Prize winner Adam Johnson
Listening to the Sounds Inside: a 3/2 workshop in partnership with Capital Stage
Season Opener: March 21 with Adam Johnson
We’re thrilled to announce the return of Adam Johnson to our event stage, with readings by actors from his epic historical novel, The Wayfinder. A recipient of rave reviews from the Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal, this novel begins as a young girl’s perilous seafaring journey in the South Seas, but it’s oh, so much more than that.
Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 21 (our ONLY Saturday event this year) at 7PM at the Auditorium at CLARA (1425 24th St. in Midtown Sacramento).
This is our only ticketed event this season, and we’ve established three tiers: $10 for admission only; $35 for admission and a discounted copy of The Wayfinder; or $45 for admission for two people and one copy (also discounted!) of The Wayfinder. Tickets are available here and you can pick up your copy of the book at the event, and have Adam sign it for you.
Save the Dates for the rest of our 2026 season!
All events start at 7pm at the Auditorium at CLARA, 1425 24th St. in Midtown Sacramento

Listening to the Sounds Inside: a workshop in partnership with Capital Stage, Monday, March 2
We’re excited to announce our first-ever partnership with Capital Stage. Their new show, Tony-Award-nominated play The Sound Inside, by Adam Rapp, runs January 28-March 1. Intense and literary in the best ways, the play explores the fraught relationship that develops between a novelist who teaches fiction-writing at Yale and one of her students.
Take advantage of the generous 25% discount Cap Stage is offering our supporters to buy tickets for the play (use COMMUNITY25 at checkout). Then sign up to join a two-hour workshop inspired by the play, facilitated by our own Naomi Williams, on Monday, March 2, from 6-8pm at Studio 130 at CLARA. The workshop is offered on a “pay-what-you-will” basis, with a minimum donation of $5. Naomi is offering her time, and proceeds will be split between CapLit and Cap Stage.
Announcing our new Casting Director — Atim Udoffia
It’s not a CapLit event without our actors, so we’re delighted to announce the newest member of the CapLit team — Atim Udoffia! She’s an actor, writer, and director, and we are so lucky to have her talent and experience as she joins us as our Casting Director, taking on the challenge of finding exactly the right actors to read our writers’ work. You’ll learn more about her in an upcoming newsletter, but meanwhile: welcome, Atim!
Submit Your Work to CapLit!
We’re quickly filling our 2026 schedule, but we’ve got some holes to fill, and we’re looking for some new work by local authors. That could be you! Submit your fiction or non-fiction to caplitwriters@gmail.com (please include “Submission” in your subject line!). We’re looking for read-out-loud-able short stories or stand-alone excerpts that set your hair on fire. Word count 4000 words, give or take.
We’re really excited about this season and can’t wait to see you while we celebrate literature and theater in Sacramento!
Sue, Valerie, and Naomi
